American Colonies
Be prepared for track ten, American Colonies! The song
begins with mighty and majestic pipe organ, recorded live at Bethel Lutheran
Church in Madison, WI and performed masterfully by Amy Hartsough. Chilling
chords with a resolution that will raise the hair on your neck. Enter the drums
and snarling electric guitar and the organ takes off on a classical fugue. This
piece is J.S. Bach meets Bon Jovi! The lyrics begin as a satire of corporate
America and finish by taking a hard look at mankind. Political rock with a
classical twist
a great song!
American Colonies (Scott Lindley)
Business suits and polished shoes Carboned lives with
carboned views Speak your lines expected to No room to think, just play
the tune
Press your shirts to fit the mold Pretend it's not a
wrinkled world Ruling kings from days of old Cling to the petty caste
they're sold
CHORUS: Like ants we're crawling, running day by
day, Our lives they are calling us to play, The games on this rock, why
can't I fly away
Market up that big attack Months of talk but days to
act Forged smiles and grips that lack Shade their eyes with skillful
tact
Chase the corporate sphere around Make your pitch and
win the crown Foolish, can you hear the sound As pride and ethics hit
the ground
CHORUS Carry me away up to the sky High above
with eagle's eye So far below what we've become So far away the shining
Son.
Early rise to beat the sun Many battles to be won
Captive in this web we've spun Round and round the race is run
Underneath a billion stars So insignificant we are
And yet we claim creation ours Intoxicated with the power
CHORUS
